Ptosis refers to the dropping of one or both eyelids. The dropping may be barely noticeable or the lid can descend over the entire pupil. It is caused by weakness of the muscle responsible for raising the eyelid , damage to the nerves which control those muscles or laxity of the skin of the upper eyelids
Causes – A ptosis can be present at birth, part of the aging process, injury to the eye , after effect of cataract or other eye surgery, defective blood vessels in the brain, neurological disorders, systemic diseases – diabetes, progreesive muscle weakness- myasthenia gravis
Symptoms- dropping of eyelid, difficulty in seeing- depending on how severely the lid droop, increased tearing
